WHAT YOU NEED
· A pot with hot water (or a heat gun with adjustable temperature settings)
· A bowl with cold water to cool the blade after adjustment
· Gloves to protect your hands when handling a hot blade
STEP 1: HEAT THE BLADE
Dip the blade in boiling water (approx. 100°C) for about 30 seconds. Alternatively, you can use a heat gun, but make sure the temperature does not exceed 100°C. Direct the heat at the part of the blade you want to shape and keep the heat source moving to avoid damage. Do not hold the heat source too close – start a bit away so the plastic does not melt.
STEP 2: SOFTEN THE BLADE
Continue heating the blade until the plastic becomes soft and formable. This normally takes 30–60 seconds. Depending on the material (PE, PP, or PP-H), the time may vary. The blade should be soft enough to shape without collapsing.
STEP 3: SHAPE THE HOOK
Put on gloves and bend the blade to the desired hook. Use your hands or press it against a flat surface for an even curve. Never use tools such as screwdrivers or pliers, as these can damage the blade and such a hook is not approved.
STEP 4: HOLD THE POSITION
Hold the blade in its new shape for about 30 seconds to let the plastic begin to set before cooling. This helps the blade stay in place as the plastic begins to harden.
STEP 5: COOL THE BLADE
Dip the blade in cold water to secure the shape properly. You can also place the blade in a cool environment, but make sure it keeps its shape throughout the cooling process. A cloth or similar can be used as support. Do not put the blade in the freezer, as extreme temperature differences can damage the plastic.
STEP 6: CHECK THE HOOK
After cooling, inspect the blade’s shape. Try a few shots to see if you got the hook you wanted. If adjustment is needed, repeat the process slowly and carefully.
STEP 7: FINAL ADJUSTMENTS
Small fine adjustments can be made by reheating specific parts of the blade. It’s better to make several small adjustments than to overbend at once.
